Body Stress Release: Let's Be Spineful!
with Laine Redpath
Investigating the Grief Dynamic in Everyday Life
with Benita Scott

Musculoskeletal pain is the most common issue taken to GPs in the UK and America and the most common reason for absenteeism at work. Most chronic musculoskeletal pain is the result of repeated wrong movement (poor posture, for example) over time or a sudden traumatic stress event (car accident, for example) that the body and mind are unable to ‘shake off’. Where does this tension go? What happens when tension becomes locked in the body? What can be done about it? Body Stress Release (BSR) is a technique that encourages the body to remember where tension is being and then to release that original tension so that the body is free to do its own healing. It is a gentle, non-invasive, hands-on therapy that works subtly and effectively. Laine Redpath is a BSR practitioner specialising in posture and movement. This talk will cover the BSR technique and the after-care package offered by Laine that includes posture work, tips, tricks and exercises. There will be movement!

Everyone has experienced grief at some point in their lives, it is an emotion of loss, the other side of love, the other side of belonging or having. Grief may come after any major change in life, therefore bereavement counselling may be appropriate in helping us navigate our way through any change e.g the loss of a job, adolescence, divorce, change of role, a medical diagnosis or when facing a more conceptual problem such as an existential crisis. In present day society, however, letting go and grieving can be a difficult process and many people find themselves holding back from talking about how they are feeling. Unchecked grief can eclipse an individual's definition of self and at times this can feel overwhelming for all involved, sometimes resulting in physical illness or a change of character. Benita Scott is a Change Therapist and End of Life Doula. Her view is that when people experience the grieving process it is conditioned by expectation, culture, resilience, self-care habits and previous imprints from others. Benita’s role is to reflect, guide and shepherd individuals or family groups through this time. Her training encompassed a wide range of skills from benefits advice, psychotherapy, nutrition and more spiritual understanding, learning about how different practices and religions take care of those at their most vulnerable time. In Benita’s forthcoming talk she will explore ways of communicating with those who are grieving and how we can all find ways to experience change without fear.
