Listening & Sharing from the Heart:

A community exchange

Facilitated b

Tuesday 11th February 2020
7pm - 9.15 pm
@ Friends' Meeting House, Ship Street, Brighton BN1 1AF

It’s a rare experience these days to feel truly heard by another person. More often, the ‘listener’ is quick to offer (or mentally rehearse) his/her own opinions, stories, judgments or advice. This prevents us from being really present with and for each other. It leaves us feeling disconnected and it can intensify any conflict in our lives.

We will be practising the simple art of listening deeply and respectfully to another person – and also sharing the truth of our own experience. It’s not a skill to learn, or an effort to do. It’s about relaxing into presence, creating a powerful space of connection, support and healing.

Benefits

This practice will mostly be in pairs – taking it in turns to listen silently and to share your experience. It will help you to:

1.       Communicate and connect better with others, e.g. partner, family, friends, colleagues

2.       Develop more empathy, compassion and intuition

3.       Reconnect with yourself – with self-awareness and self-compassion

4.       Clear the clutter of your thoughts, bringing more space and peace of mind

5.       Process challenging experiences and feelings; get in touch with deeper needs

6.       Receive the gift of a profoundly relaxing and nourishing experience

The Chinese philosopher, Chuang Tzu, said that true empathy requires listening with your whole being: “There is then a direct grasp of what is right there before you that can never be heard with the ear or understood with the mind.”

You are welcome to come on your own or to bring a partner/friend you want to practise with. The group space will be held with care and confidentiality.
