Based on the feedback from 6 week Mindful Eating course cycles, we have developed this follow-up course to enable you to explore in more depth your relationship with food and to continue transforming your eating behaviour.

In the first 6-week training cycle of Mindful Eating we worked on becoming observant and aware of our relationship with food and our body. We connected with our basic needs of hunger and fullness and started to eat mindfully. However, more complex personal issues related to our eating behaviour such as: emotional eating due to blocked/numbed emotions, underlying anger issues, weaker personal boundaries, importance of others versus ourselves, were discovered and explored and we started to gain a bit of an understanding of their significant effect on our eating behaviour and our body image. But this was just the beginning of change.

In this second, advanced 8-week Mindful Eating training cycle we will focus and teach new advanced, practical skills of mindful eating while at the same time uncovering the deeper, human reasons behind mindless, automatic and disconnected eating. Personal issues such as societal pressures to look thin, automatic thoughts about food and body image, strict ‘food rules’, lack of self-love and weak personal boundaries will be explored and discussed with the goal of a deeper understanding of our relationship with food and creating a nurturing environment for ourselves, our needs and our bodies.

This 8 week course will cover the following topics:

- Relieving emotional/comfort eating by securing stronger personal boundaries and self-love

- Learning how to endure difficult moods without the use of food

- Learning to meet your other needs in more effective ways than eating

- Mindful eating and relationships

- Uncovering automatic thoughts about food and re-evaluating strict food rules

- Mindfully losing weight: overcoming the stress and pressure to lose weight or to be thin

The course consists of 4 group sessions delivered fortnightly and weekly emails with exercises to do between the sessions.

Participants will be able to finish off this course with the additional Masterclass on 4th March

Dr Fenia Giannopoulou is an Eating Behavior-Nutrition Specialist & Senior Lecturer in Exercise Physiology, University of Brighton. She’s the founder of Mindful.Eating.Brighton. She runs workshops & 1-1 consultations on metabolic testing and nutrition for health, weight management and exercise performance.
