Mindful eating is a new scientific technique that allows us to observe, understand and gain awareness of our eating behaviour. It is the opposite of mindless eating: automatically eating with no connection with our body needs, what we like and we do not like, what we want, what we feel. By choosing to become mindful in our eating, we make a decision to respect ourselves and put ourselves as a priority in our lives. We become the most important person in our life and nurturing, self-love and feeding gains importance.

But why do we eat the way we eat? This is certainly, as probably most of us know, not an easy answer. It is actually a very complicated answer as it affected by a number of parameters such as family and societal influences, eating behaviour models, misconceptions and lack of education on nutrition, inability to express ourselves and our emotions and comfort eating.

Automatic behaviour - Family influence on our eating behaviour - Guilt over food

This half-day masterclass will explore the personal issues that come into play and lead to a disconnection from ourselves and our needs and eventually mindless and emotional eating. Specifically, we will focus on the family influence on our eating behaviour. It is known that human behaviour is primarily influenced by setup in which we grew up and primarily our family. Our eating behaviour specifically, is copied by the eating behaviour of our family in an automatic, subconscious way that most of the times we do not realize. Understanding our own family’s eating behaviour and potential problems that exist in relation to eating, body image, dieting, anxiety and guilt over food, can untangle in an almost magical way our own eating behaviour, liberating us and allowing us to make our own choice of how we want to eat and what relationship we want to have with food and our body.
