Mindfulness, Meditation & Relaxation Instructor
Wendy has worked with families and children within the NHS for over 30 years as nurse, midwife and health visitor. Her knowledge and understanding of physical and mental health has developed over many years within this context. More recently, Wendy’s professional focus and interest have been on emotional wellbeing.
Employed by a Brighton children’s charity, she is a trainer in a life skills, safety and emotional awareness programme for people of all ages. She has developed and delivered training and courses called ‘Feeling Good Feeling Safe’ for professionals and parents in Sussex over the past 5 years. At its heart, this course is about being in touch with our feelings and trusting them to enable us to know what feels right for us; how to manage our feelings, calm ourselves and get help when we need it. Wendy feels that her interest and study of mindfulness has been a natural progression from this.
Mindfulness based stress relief techniques developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical centre in the US have been used for over 30 years to help with stress, anxiety, chronic pain and general well being.
Wendy’s own experience of practising mindfulness has greatly increased her enjoyment of life and improved her physical and emotional wellbeing.
The impressive research and evidence base of the positive effects of mindfulness in dealing with stress, depression and physical wellbeing, has fuelled Wendy’s enthusiasm to train with SMARTfoundations as an instructor to pass these skills and understanding on. She is currently a freelance trainer for MindUP and SMARTfoundations, developing mindful practice for children in schools.

The sessions are suitable for beginners as well as for anyone wishing to practise and expand their existing mindfulness skills.
