CHAKRADANCE is a healing dance practice for body and soul. It was developed in 1998 by Natalie Southgate because she wanted to combine her work in Jungian psychology and chakra healing with her passion for dance and music. It combines music, spontaneous dance and guided imagery to promote that wonderful state of calm vitality known as “wellbeing”.

Chakradance differs from other dance practices; it’s not about steps or performance and we dance with eyes closed in a darkened, candelit room. It’s more like a dynamic, moving meditation. It’s completely about freedom of expression; and there’s no right way to Chakradance as everyone has their own rhythm and movement.

With its roots in Jungian psychology, Chakradance encourages people to dance for self-discovery and self-healing and one of the great things about it is you don’t have to follow a set routine to feel the benefits; you just surrender to the music and let it move you.


Who's It For?

CHAKRADANCE is very inclusive - anyone over the age of 16 can participate.

Some are attracted by the fact that it’s a fun and energetic workout to great music. Others say it leads to a spiritual awakening. Most people love it because it provides a haven away from their stressed everyday lives, and a rare opportunity to find true freedom of expression.


The Music

Music plays a key role in Chakradance. Each chakra (energy centre that integrates our physical, mental and emotional energies) vibrates at its own frequency and music is able to balance the chakras by using sound vibrations. Each chakra therefore has its own track that has been composed to perfectly resonate with it. The aligned and resonant music works as a sort of vibrational medicine inviting each chakra to come back into balance.

Chakradance music has a lasting effect. The vibrations continue to pulse outward into our energy field long after the sounds have stopped playing. The more we experience these healing sounds, the greater and more permanent the effect. When the music is combined with spontaneous dance, the healing effect is magnified.

The Experience

It’s a bit like entering into a waking dream. The music, together with guided imagery helps participants tap into their inner world. With eyes closed, it’s easy to go within and surrender to the music allowing movements to emerge spontaneously. Dancers may see images appear or recall memories, feel physical sensations and emotions or gain insights within each chakra.

Each chakra influences a different aspect of our lives:
Together, they encompass the whole of human experience.

The Benefits

On a physical level it’s a cardio workout that gets everything moving from your face to your feet. It gets the heart pumping; releasing endorphins to make you feel relaxed, open, joyful!
